My Journey Serving with the Link Ministry
When people ask me what I do for a living, I often see a mix of curiosity and confusion cross their faces as I explain my role with InterVarsity Link. "So... how does that work?" they ask.
The answer is both simple and profound: I help build bridges between college students and Christ across the globe, and I do it through the generous support of people who believe in this mission as much as I do.
The Path That Led Me Here
For ten years, I walked a few bustling college campuses in LA, meeting students where they were - literally and spiritually. Each day brought new conversations, new opportunities to share God's love, and new reminders of why campus ministry matters so deeply. I saw students wrestling with their faith, questioning their purpose, and finding their way to Christ during these pivotal college years.
Those years taught me something crucial: college campuses are more than just places of academic learning - they're spiritual crossroads where young people make decisions that shape the rest of their lives.
A Global Vision
Now, my role has evolved into something even bigger. With InterVarsity Link, I help identify and send workers to campuses around the world, multiplying the impact I once had in Los Angeles across continents. It's like planting seeds that grow into forests - each campus worker we send can reach hundreds of students, who can in turn influence their communities and countries.
The Reality of Faith-Based Ministry
Here's something many people don't realize about campus ministry: it's a full-time job that operates on a unique model. My position with InterVarsity is my actual career, my way of providing for my family, including our new little one. But unlike traditional jobs, my salary comes entirely from donations that people designate specifically for my ministry through InterVarsity/USA.
This model isn't about collecting a paycheck - it's about building a community of partners who share a vision for reaching college students globally. When someone designates a gift to support my ministry, they're not just supporting me, they're investing in:
Students finding Christ during their college years
Future leaders developing a biblical worldview
Global campus ministries taking root and growing
Lives being transformed across continents
The Current Challenge
Recently, I discovered I'm facing a $2,000 monthly deficit in ministry support. For my family, especially with a new baby, this gap is significant. But I've learned that when God calls you to a mission, He also calls others to support it - often in ways I may never expect.
Why This Matters
Every day, millions of college students worldwide step onto their campuses, searching for answers to life's biggest questions. Many are far from home, questioning their beliefs, and making decisions that will shape their futures. Through InterVarsity Link, we're there at this crucial moment - not just in Los Angeles anymore, but on campuses around the globe.
